US Cities With Nonstop Flights From Both Coasts

US cities ranked by how many East Coast and West Coast cities fly to them nonstop, from Midway's route data, with the months each route runs.

US Cities With the Most Direct Flight Connections October 27, 2026 · 7 min read · Updated October 27, 2026

Seven US cities have a nonstop (no change of plane) from every East Coast and West Coast city on this page, in each of the next twelve months: Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston and Minneapolis. In each of the seven, an airline that runs a hub there is listed on all 14 routes, Delta in Atlanta and Minneapolis, American in Charlotte and Dallas, United in Denver and Houston, and American and United in Chicago. Detroit, Nashville, Columbus and St. Louis also reach all 14 coastal cities, but not in every month.

The figures come from Midway’s route data as of October 2026, which covers the next twelve months of schedules for the 600 busiest airports. A coastal city reaches a destination when any of its airports has a nonstop there in at least one month, which is the rule a Midway search applies. Cities are ranked by the lower of two shares, East Coast cities reached out of nine and West Coast cities out of five, because the East Coast list is nearly twice as long and a plain total would favour cities that lean east. Ties are broken by the same share counting only routes listed in every month from October 2026 to April 2027.

Which cities count as East Coast and West Coast

The East Coast is nine metros on the Atlantic seaboard, from Boston to Miami: Boston, New York (JFK, LaGuardia and Newark), Philadelphia, Washington (Reagan National, Dulles and Baltimore-Washington), Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville, and Miami with Fort Lauderdale. The West Coast is five metros from Seattle to San Diego: Seattle, Portland, the San Francisco Bay Area (SFO, Oakland and San José), Los Angeles (LAX, Burbank, Orange County and Ontario) and San Diego. A city is a metro, with all of its airports counted together, at both ends of the route. Chicago is O’Hare and Midway, Dallas is DFW and Love Field, and Houston is Intercontinental and Hobby.

Inland cities in coastal states are left out, such as Hartford, Richmond, Raleigh-Durham, Orlando and Sacramento, and so are Tampa, Fort Myers and Sarasota on the Gulf coast. West Palm Beach is left out because its route file in the data is out of date. Adding Sacramento would not change the top seven, which all have a Sacramento nonstop as well.

Coastal cities with a nonstop to any airport of the destination in at least one month from October 2026 to September 2027, from Midway’s route data as of October 2026. The last column counts routes listed in each month from October 2026 to April 2027. The 14 coastal cities themselves are not ranked.

The seven cities every coastal city reaches

Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston and Minneapolis tie at the top. Each has a nonstop from all 14 coastal cities in every month from October 2026 to September 2027, so the month a group travels does not change the answer. For Chicago, Dallas and Houston that holds with O’Hare, DFW and Intercontinental alone, so the second airport adds airlines rather than reach.

The airlines on those routes differ more than the counts do. Chicago has American, United and Southwest on all 14, and Dallas and Denver each have two airlines on all 14, which in most cases means more departure times and more fares to compare. Charlotte is at the other end, with American the only airline listed on 9 of its 14 routes, including all five from the West Coast. In Atlanta, Delta is alone from Charleston, Savannah and San Diego. The airline lists in the data include some codeshares, so a route can look as if it has more airlines than it does, but never fewer.

Cities one or two routes short

Detroit and Nashville reach all 14, and each misses one route in some months. Delta flies Portland to Detroit in every month except February 2027. Portland to Nashville, on Alaska and Southwest, is listed in October 2026 and from April 2027, but not from November to March.

Columbus and St. Louis are further from a full year. Columbus has a Portland nonstop only in November 2026, on American, and its Norfolk route is a Breeze Airways flight that skips February 2027. At St. Louis, Southwest flies from Norfolk only in June and July 2027, and from Portland from May 2027, so St. Louis has all 14 coastal cities in the same month only in June and July 2027.

Austin and Kansas City each miss one East Coast city entirely, Norfolk for Austin and Jacksonville for Kansas City, and New Orleans and Pittsburgh miss Portland. Austin’s Charleston and Savannah routes run in spring and summer only, on Southwest.

The cities that limit the list

Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah and Jacksonville have the four shortest route lists of the 14 coastal cities, and Portland has the shortest on the West Coast. Most of the gaps above are one of these five. Salt Lake City shows the pattern: it has a nonstop from all five West Coast cities and from Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington and Miami in every month, and from none of the four smaller cities between Norfolk and Jacksonville.

A smaller airport’s route list is mostly a list of hubs, which is why the seven cities at the top are all airline hubs. The guide to airline hubs and the cities a group can reach nonstop works through that for pairs of smaller cities, and airports sharing nonstop destinations with the most cities counts it for every airport in the data. If your group includes Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville or Portland, start from that city’s list.

Seasonal routes

The seven cities at the top run all year from every coastal city. Below them, summer adds routes. Nashville and Kansas City gain Portland from April 2027, and Southwest’s Kansas City routes from Norfolk and Charleston run in June and July 2027 only.

Winter adds the mountains. Hayden (for Steamboat Springs) has nonstops from all five West Coast cities and from Boston, New York, Washington and Miami in February and March 2027. Honolulu has nonstops from all five West Coast cities in every month, and from the East Coast only from New York and Washington all year, with Boston added in December and January.

“Every month” stops at April 2027 on this page. In the data, Frontier, Sun Country and Avelo schedules end after April 2027, Allegiant and Breeze after May, and Southwest after August, which is more likely schedules not loaded yet than routes ending. Midway’s month filter shows which destinations your cities share in the month you pick, and it cannot tell you whether an airline will add or drop a route after the schedules in the data.

Meeting on one of the coasts

The 14 coastal cities are left out of the ranking, but a group can meet in one of them. Washington is the only one with a nonstop from each of the other 13 in every month. Boston has nonstops from all 13 too, with Norfolk missing from January to March 2027, and so does Miami, with Portland only from November to the spring. New York has no nonstop to Philadelphia, which is a train ride away.

Reach and flight time

The ranking says who can fly nonstop, not how long each flight is. Atlanta is about 4h40 to 4h50 from Seattle and about 1h15 from Savannah. Denver tilts the other way, at about 2h15 to 3h05 from the West Coast cities and 4h15 or more from Boston, New York and Miami. For a team split between the coasts, offsite destinations for teams split between coasts orders the middle cities by how evenly the flight time splits, and where to meet from New York, Chicago and Los Angeles does the same for three cities. How Denver compares with the other central hubs on US-wide reach is in Denver as an offsite city for distributed teams.

The list settles who can avoid a connection. It does not settle fares on your dates or which coast flies longer, and those usually decide between the last two or three cities. Enter your group’s departure cities in Midway to see every destination all of them reach nonstop, with the flight time from each.
